Three Different Things Are All Called Verification

Business verification is Meta confirming your company exists, using documents. Display name approval is Meta agreeing that the words beside your messages are your business. The Meta Verified badge is the mark that sits next to your name. Three separate processes, three separate outcomes, and people arrive looking for the third having not started the first. The WhatsApp verification checker above is about the badge, and its very first requirement is that one of the other two is already done.

Sorting out which one you actually want saves more time than anything else on this page. The reason to check before you submit is simple enough: you cannot un-apply.

What the WhatsApp Verification Checker Asks

Seven requirements on the left. Tick the ones that are already true of you. The panel counts them, puts you in one of three bands, and lists what to fix, drawn from the boxes you left empty.

It is a self assessment, not an inspection. Nothing is looked up, nothing is submitted and nothing is stored, so the value comes entirely from being straight with it. A box ticked hopefully is a rejection later.

Requirement One: Business Verification Comes First

Legal name, address and documents confirmed inside Meta Business Manager. The fix line in the panel is unusually blunt about the sequencing, and it is right: nothing else can proceed without it.

If that is not done, stop reading this page and go and do it, because every other item on the list is downstream of it. It has its own documents, its own reasons for coming back rejected and its own wait, and the Meta business verification checker is the tool for that half of the job.

This is also the requirement people are most likely to think they have already met, because a Business Manager account exists and looks official. Having an account is not the same as having been verified in it.

Requirement Two: The Free App Does Not Qualify

This is the one that stops most small businesses, and it is worth being unambiguous about it. The number has to be running on the official WhatsApp Business Platform. The free WhatsApp Business app you downloaded onto a phone does not qualify, however long you have used it and however many customers you have in it.

That is not a small administrative step. Moving a number onto the official platform changes how you send, what you can send without a template, who can answer, and what it costs. It is the right move for a business that has outgrown a phone, and it is a genuine change of setup rather than a checkbox.

The Other Five

Shorter, and mostly things you can settle this week.

• Display name matches your trading name. It has to be the name customers already know you by. If you have not chosen one yet, or you are unsure whether yours will survive review, run it through the display name validator first.
• A public web presence. A live website or a claimed Google Business Profile, something findable that corroborates the business. A social account is not what this is asking for.
• Not in a restricted category. The one that is a wall rather than a task, below.
• Two-factor authentication switched on. This is on the WhatsApp Business Account itself, the WABA, rather than on your personal login. The panel says it takes two minutes and that is about right.
• Green quality rating, no violations. No active template rejections and no policy strikes against the number.

Restricted Categories Are a Wall, Not a Gap

Alcohol, tobacco, weapons, supplements, gambling and adult. The panel lists these as excluded, and unlike every other item on the checklist there is no fix underneath it that you can go and do.

If your trade is on that list, the honest answer is that this is not a queue you are near the front of, and no amount of preparing the other six requirements changes it. The panel points you at Meta’s commerce policy for your own trade rather than trying to adjudicate it, which is the right call: the boundaries of a category are not something a checklist can settle, and a shop that sells one restricted line among a hundred ordinary ones is a genuinely different case from a shop that only sells that.

Read the policy for your actual trade before you spend a week on the rest of the list.

The Requirement That Is a Wait Rather Than a Task

Six of the seven are things you can go and do. The green quality rating is not.

A rating that has fallen recovers by sending less and sending better, over time, and there is no button that resets it. If yours is amber or red, the useful move is to stop the marketing sends, deal with whatever people were blocking you for, and let it come back before you touch the application at all.

Template violations are the other half of this requirement and they are quicker to clear. A rejected template sitting in the account is a live problem rather than an old one, so tidy those before you count this box as ticked.

Reading the Three Bands

The verdict changes as you tick, and there are three of them.

All seven gives you eligible to apply. Everything the checklist covers is in place and the application is worth submitting.

Five or six gives you nearly there, and the advice is to fix the remaining items rather than chance it. That is the band worth taking most seriously, because it is where the temptation to submit lives.

Under five gives you not yet eligible, and the note is direct: applying now will almost certainly be refused. Work through the gaps instead.

If you tick everything, the panel replaces the fix list with a line saying there is nothing outstanding. That is the only state in which this page is telling you to go ahead.

What the WhatsApp Verification Checker Cannot Do

Its own footnote covers the important one, and the rest follow from the same fact.

• Meta grants the badge. Not this page, and not DMly. What DMly can do is prepare the account and submit with you.
• It does not check anything. There is no lookup, no account access and no connection to Meta. Every one of those seven ticks is your own answer.
• It cannot see your quality rating, your category or your templates. Those live in your own console, and that is where to confirm them before you tick.
• It is not the application. Ticking seven boxes here submits nothing.
• Nothing is stored. No account, no record of your answers, nothing kept when you close the tab.
• It cannot tell you how long anything takes. That is not a number anybody outside Meta can promise.

The whole checklist is built on the server before any script runs, so the questions, the bands and the fixes are all readable before anything loads. Ticking only recounts them.

The Order to Do These In

Most of the frustration around this comes from doing the list in the order it is written rather than the order it depends on.

• Business verification. Everything else waits on it, and it is the slowest.
• Check your category. Two minutes, and it can stop the whole project. Do it early rather than at the end.
• The platform move. Getting the number onto the official API is the biggest piece of work and the one with the most consequences for how you operate.
• Display name. Best decided during the move, because it is submitted as part of it.
• Web presence and two-factor authentication. Both are an afternoon at most, and both are easy to forget because neither feels like part of WhatsApp.
• Quality rating. Last, because it is the one that has to settle rather than be done.

Submitting It

An application that meets every requirement is mostly a matter of putting the same facts in front of Meta in the form it expects, which is dull work and easy to get subtly wrong.
